Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is a cousin and daughter of the singer Dionne. She began singing in the choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark when she was a child at the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally with the mother of her on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. Then, she performed backing vocals to Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls as well as her mom. In 1981, she began working as a singer with New York's funk band Material. It was her quality vocal performance with this group that caught interest of recording companies including Arista. Whitney Houston was her debut album. Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album by the debut artist. The album released several hit singles such as Saving all My Love for You How Will You Know That You're Good to Love and The Greatest Love of All. This resulted in her having seven US number one hits in a row. It was even better than the Beatles. The album came out in 1987, and it sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Its Whitney 1987 album, which included the songs Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as songs, grew on the success she had achieved. However, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard sealed her spot among the top-selling musicians ever. The film itself as well as her performance in it were not highly appreciated, the album's soundtrack and her cover of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You topped the singles and albums charts for months and sold 44 million copies around the globe. Their daughter Bobbi was born in March of 1993, the year she got married to Bobby Brown. Around this time her use of drugs was well-documented and she began using daily by 1996.
